| All week long, Dave Price has become knocking on the doors of households chosen as finalists in The Early Show 's "Singing Family Face Off" competition, surprising them the word that they'd been chosen.Thursday was different -- because the features reporter and weather anchor found something -- unexpected -- looking forward to him at the home from the fourth finalists to get announced, the Peays, four brothers from Greensboro. N.C.Standing there, famous join hand, was Dave Sayer, he who also knocks on doors of homes, telling people they've won $5,000 per week from Publishers Clearing House.Sayer was supposedly "rehearsing" for an upcoming notification.And both Daves had a (mock) verbal set-to about who had the authority to be there!Finally, the Daves "settled" things with Sayer acknowledging join Price as he knocked on the Peays' door.Once the Peays emerged, one screaming with joy, Price broke good news everybody was wise to, anyhow: "You didn't win the Publishers Clearing House. That's all a little scam!"But what's not a scam is the selection of the Peays for the finals in the "Face Off."Taimine, Katif, Magid and Solomon Peay often sing a cappella, using mom, Joyce Peay, behind them completely.Whether in church or at local 4-H gatherings, the Peay brothers have sung, together and often, most of their lives.Joyce serves as their manager. Their father died when they were younger, but remains a huge influence in their music.Though they've grown older, the viewers continues to come together as much as every Sunday to perform at various local churches.Magid, who sings base, will be the eldest, recently married and it is a new dad, to baby Naomi.Katif, who sings first tenor, is studying to get a Ph.D. at Nc A & T, where his youngest brother, Solomon, is really a sophomore. Solomon is the group's songwriter and lead singer.Taimine, the second tenor, has done much of the talking and scheduling for that group. He's also their drummer, once they go non-a capella!Solomon, Katif and Tiamine all live in the family home in Greensboro. Magid, who sings base, lives nearby with his family, also in Greensboro.The brothers were raised in the town of Roland, N.C., on the northeastern border with Sc. The boys remember maturing near and playing at "South in the Border," the Interstate 95 icon for fireworks sales and "Pedroland." A drive to Florida from the Northeast isn't complete without making the stop. Joyce recently moved back to Roland, though the boys are already trying to coax her to stay closer to them.Katif says, "We're singing in church weekly. We have several churches. We assist several youth choirs." "Being the child brother -- let's just say I have a bunch of -- teachers!" Solomon observed."A large amount of groups fall off because of simple things," Taimine highlights. " ... It makes it simpler being brothers," adding, "Mom is the thread that holds it all together. She's the one.""If not to be with her," Katif agreed, "we probably would not be singing."Says Joyce, "I am satisfied with them, because they are living lifespan that they sing.""I would hope everyone would understand the love we have for every other and how our household just gets along," Katif adds.Says Taimine, "I inform you, there's no one else I'd rather sing with."Magid summed all of it up by noting, "It's actually is all about family." Lots of people tend to pack on the few extra pounds through the holidays -- particularly the period from Thanksgiving to New Year's -- given that they eat more and exercise less.Similar changes in lifestyle on the weekends also lead to weight gain, slower weight-loss, and problems maintaining significant weight-loss. Susan B. Racette, PhD, assistant professor of physical therapy and medicine with the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, and colleagues have found that older adults on strict exercise and dieting programs tend to take in more calories on the weekends than during the week."We thought weekends would present a challenge for some people attempting to lose weight, but the consistency of our finding before and during the interventions was surprising," Racette says within a news release. "Subjects within the diet group dropped a few pounds during the week, but over the past weekend, they stopped shedding pounds because they were eating more."Racette's team wanted to see if changes in diet or activity patterns in the weekends would help or hinder fat loss. Their study involved 48 older adults, aged 50-60, who took part in the CALERIE (Comprehensive Assessment of Long-term Results of Reducing Intake of Energy) study. CALERIE is often a government-funded study to investigate whether 2 yrs of calorie restriction can decrease the aging process and reduce the risk of certain diseases.The participants had their exercise and eating habits and body mass index (BMI) charted at the start of the study. No one was considered obese. Most participants took in the most calories on Saturdays.Researchers divided the participants into three groups:Group 1 absorbed 20% fewer calories every day but didn't change their level of activity.Group 2 increased their daily exercise program but didn't change their diet plan, to have a comparable energy deficit as Group 1.Group 3 would not change their diet or activity level.Researchers followed the participants for the year. Food diaries, regular weigh-ins, and exercise accelerometers helped keep close a record of their progress. At the start of the trial, about 36% of every person's total calories originated from fat eaten on Saturdays, but below 35% was due to fatty foods eaten during the remaining portion of the week.
