As a child, is given to the Ravenna Cult once found to be Force Sensitive. Upon turning two, he is given to the Jedi Order.

After spending the next six years in the Clan setting, as part of Vornskyr Clan (which would inspire him to keep a Vornskyr named Jaig as a pet later in life), he is taken as a Padawan by fellow Deralian Jedi, Jedi Knight Septimus Augustus.

He is known for mastering Form I by the age of ten, being able to use Form IV by then and master it by the age of twelve, by which he could use Form II and III, mastering them by the age of sixteen. Showing his martial prowess, he was trained as a Jedi Brute and Sniper when he was at the Temple.

When he was fourteen, he began going out on missions with his master, usually helping the Republic take down pirates and mercenary forces working against the Republic. Within two years, the duo of himself and his master, who was now a Jedi Master, were well known on the Outer Rim, with the Council granting them the status of Jedi Adventurers.

By the age of sixteen, he is known for using Form V, incorporating benefits from his mastered forms into it.

At the age of seventeen, he returns to Deralia for a year, to undergo a special ceremony to signify his coming of age within his people, standard with Deralian Jedi between the age of sixteen and twenty. He is given the Revanchist Robe following completion of this ceremony.

At eighteen, his master and himself lead an expedition called the Outer Rim Crusade, hitting various tyrant-held worlds, liberating, and freeing several million slaves. Following this feat, he was put through his trials for Knighthood which he passed flawlessly.

Upon being granted the title of Jedi Knight, he is made commander of the Jedi Order's Blue Squadron. During this time, he masters Form V.
He goes on several missions to the Outer Rim, often being teamed with good friend and fellow Jedi Knight Alagaisia Cross.

At the age of twenty, he undertakes his first apprentice, the Noghri Ruzka.

He is known for pushing Ruzka to his limits often, sometimes to the brink of the Padawan falling to the dark side, however in the end he teaches him that one can push one's limits above and beyond any known levels, and still remain one with the light side.

Following Ruzka's knighting, he is granted the title of Jedi Master; after which he offers to take on the teaching of a Padawan whose Master had died, named Decmus Furus. However in two years, he fell to the dark side and fled the Order. Little is said of him.

Following the fall of Furus, he takes some time, visiting Dantooine, Ruusan, and Tython to study the ancient texts and lessons for those of his path, eventually becoming a Weaponmaster. He also travelled into Mandalorian Space, proving himself to the Mandalorians and learning their ways.

After his time of learning, he takes on another abandoned apprentice, Rinal Valorum, completing half of the young man's training. At the age of fourty, he takes on the ten year old Dai Paladin as his apprentice. During this time, he marries Alagaisia Cross.

He proceeds to teach Dai Paladin, just as he did with Rinal Valorum, in the same way he taught Ruzka.

Four years later, while on Hurrikane for his apprentice to obtain a Hurrikane gem, a Republic scout force detects that there are inhabitable worlds farther into Wild Space. The Hammerhead Cruiser Carth Onasi picks up Cross, his apprentice, and the scouts, who were from the Republic Shocktroopers, carrying a full troop compliment of Republic Shocktroopers.

The expedition arrives at Reach. They find an unidentified ship, and attempt to make contact, but are immediately engaged in combat by a inferior vessel. Ten minutes after destroying the craft an overwhelming force of alien cruisers arrive, pushing them away and chasing them to Ryloth. At Ryloth, the Carth Onasi is destroyed, and the crew and troops evacuate down to the surface.

On Ryloth, the alien force begins an invasion, focusing on the group of Republic soldiers. Outside the twin capital cities, Valerian and the Shocktroopers drew the line, refusing to retreat or allow the aliens to hit the Twi'leks. After the surviving Navy crew is killed, the alien General meets with Valerian. Surprisingly, the aliens knew basic, and the General gave him the option to surrender or die. He refused, leading to a climatic and epic battle, between Valerian, his padawan, and three hundred Shocktroopers with nearly one million alien warriors, now known as the Leth'aar. The Leth'aar kill the Shocktroopers and Cross' apprentice, while taking massive losses, with an unimaginable 3000 to 1 kill ratio for the Republic, after using the environment (such as leading the Leth'aar into the brightlands), recovered equipment from the Onasi (such as its weaponry), overall fighting skill, and extensive use of Valerian's Battle Meditation. Valerian alone, facing a horde of 100,000 Leth'aar warriors was given one last chance to surrender himself and the world of Ryloth. He proceeded to tell the Leth'aar General the legendary phrase when we told he was facing so many warriors, "And I am one Jedi...and none shall pass...". He then challenged the Jedi sending, one of his best warriors against him, then two, then three...and so on, until he was facing thousands at a time, becoming one with the Force as he did, until it was down to just the General and him. He proceeded to give the General the chance to retreat, but he refused, citing that his honor demanded they fight to the death. Valerian and the General fight in a duel that lasts over an hour, until the Third Battle Fleet arrives, allowing Valerian to be recovered. The General retreats to his flagship, and after the total destruction of his fleet, withdraws back into Wild Space. Valerian hands over various holorecordings of the event and gives his own account, leading to him being considered a hero and a legend by most beings throughout the Republic.

In Leth'aar space, the fighting abilities and bravery, as well as legend, of Valerian and the Shocktroopers spread. Meanwhile, he returns to Coruscant to brief the Council on the situation, and also sees the birth of his first child.

Valerian and the full force of the Shocktroopers are unleashed in the opening assault against Leth'aar space, hitting a planet called Reach. Remembering their fallen brothers, and driven by the will to prevent any invasion of the back door of the Republic, the planet is taken in a single day, its entire system the following week. The action enhances the legend of Valerian and the Shocktroopers. Three other systems are taken, collectively lasting three months in what was supposed to be a delaying action alongside the First Battle Fleet. Using these systems, found to be habitable and extremely fertile, the Republic sets up a beach head for an invasion of Leth'aar Space.

The Republic Battle Fleets and ground troops pour into Leth'aar Space, assaulting the next few colony systems. Meanwhile, High Command holds an emergency meeting with SBi to try to understand the Leth'aar and learn lessons from the Battle of Ryloth and the opening battles of the invasion.It takes the next two years to take nine systems. In the Battle of Arthos, he witness' the death of his wife by his side in battle, and senses the death of their unborn son. He vows to honor her memory by continuing on until the war is complete.

The Third Battle Fleet and Shocktroops under Valerian pierce a weak-point in the Leth'aar lines, taking four systems and liberating an enslaved species known as the Woran, who are found to be naturally Force sensitive. The campaign lasts a year, delayed by the Leth'aar pouring reinforcements in to recover from the break in their lines. Woran Space is quickly fortified along with the border.

A endgame comes to draw as the Republic begins the invasion of Leth'aar worlds, rather than colonies. Facing resistance unlike any before, a Special Forces unit, known as Havoc Squad under Captain Orion Karath land on the planet Joyous Exaltation, and proceed to sabotage the defenses overnight, followed by the full-scale invasion by the Shocktroopers and the First Battle Fleet. Despite new technologies and designs introduced throughout the war, the fighting comes to a standstill, and the Third, Fourth and Fifth Battle Fleets and their ground forces make a push that still causes the battle to last for seven months, with nearby Threshold being taken as a forward operations base.

Following victory at Joyous Exaltation, a new Supreme Chancellor proceeds to broker a peace with the Leth'aar. After taking massive losses, the Republic vacates Threshold and Joyous Exaltation, and fortifies its border to Leth'aar Space over the course of a month and then withdraws. The Leth'aar-Republic Conflict is over, and once seeing the extent of Leth'aar Space, the Republic realizes how costly a full scale invasion would be.

Following his experiences in the Conflict, and the loss of his wife, he takes time off from the Order, exploring the galaxy, and helping those he could. He eventually happens upon a group of Jal Shey, and after proving himself to them learns their ways. Later, he learns the way of the Matukai as well.

During his ventures, he visits Myrkr, and was able to domesticate a Vornskyr, who he named Jaig. Following this, he is stranded on Yanibar, and is eventually accepted into and learns the way of the Zeison Sha.

He is found by the Order in the undercity of Taris, helping those doomed to live down there survive, when he is asked to return due to his relations with the Woran. He does so, and helps found an Enclave on Cait Sidhe, Darnassus, Thalassus, and Quel'Thalas. Following which he takes on a Woran as his apprentice, and forms a Council on Cait Sidhe, turning it into an Academy.

After the completion of the training of the first Woran Jedi, Micah Wolf, he is sent to Taris to investigate mysterious disappearances and deaths, during which he discovered a group of Dark Jedi and Sith in the undercity, eventually destroying the group and rescuing an enslaved apprentice willing to redeem himself who had killed several Jedi.

Following his return, he is added to the Jedi Council, taking the second seat. He soon takes on Ronin Katarn, the rescued enslaved apprentice, as his own apprentice.

Over the next five years, he is well known for making several lectures on the nature of the Force, some of which was mildly controversial, as well as methods of combating the Dark Side. The Council, sensing the rise of a dark entity in the Galaxy, feels that following the death of Grand Master Oika, he is best to lead the order, displaying the high amount of respect among the Jedi Order for him.

Five years later, his apprentice is knighted, following which he takes on the "orphaned" Padawan Valin Karath, son of then Senator, and soon to be Supreme Chancellor, Orion Karath, as a favor to his old friend.

Now, as the darkness rises off in an unknown plane, he makes it his best effort to ready the Jedi for the return of the Dark Side.
