Sally Field has won two Oscars plus an Emmy as an actress, but much like the old joke, what she would like to do now is direct. Her directorial debut, Beautiful, opens earlier this week. CBS News Early Show Contributor Laurie Hibberd has more in their Weekend Marquee. Beautiful stars Minnie Driver like a young woman obsessed with beauty pageants and Joey Lauren Adams as her long-suffering companion. Hibberd caught up with Field and Adams in a screening room at Planet Hollywood.Adams declared that Field was quick to praise the actors."If Sally Field stated it was good, it was good. Sometimes she'd get goose bumps. Which was the best, to do a take, give Sally goose bumps. The highlight of my day," said Adams."I think the one thing I initially fell deeply in love with and stayed in love with was the type, the Mona character [played by Driver], this also funny little family they've created for themselves," said Field. The cast and crew formed a family as well."We had a great unit. There was a great little family," Adams said.Field declared Driver gave a fearless performance."She was at those outfits all day long, just wearing heels the whole day and running down the street within the various things she had to do from the outfits," recalls Field. But as the world of beauty pageants is easy to mock, both Field and Adams found respect for your institution, especially when they realized it sends more women university than any other scholarship program.Moving along to other movies, Hibberd says that Remember The Titans is "a great film, great for Denzel, good showcase for him" but "it makes you cry from start to finish."The film is based on a true story. In 1971, the Alexandria school board integrated an all-black senior high school with an all-white school. Washington plays Coach Herman Boone, a successful black football coach chosen more than a white coach to lead an integrated team. The coaches took your children from different social backgrounds and turned them right into a solid and winning team. The group and its student leaders are credited with saving the town from turning on itself.President Clinton, who visited a screening of the movie Thursday night, said stories like those involved with the film inspire him to try to end fighting throughout the world. "I only wish we're able to learn again the things that these men learned every single day from each other," Mr. Clinton told the group outside the Uptown Theater after seeing the video. "They won a victory of the human heart," Mr. Clinton said.Hibberd suggests that people "bring a box of Kleenex."CBS News Correspondent Teri Okita reports how the Sundance prize-winning film Girlfight opens this weekend. It's the story of a hostile teen-age girl who tries to make changes in her life by being a boxer. ugg sundance
In the latest in a series of two-minute debates for your CBS News magazine Sixty minutes, former President Bill Clinton and former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole consider domestic spending—on Iraq after the war and in the U.S. now. Following is really a transcript of their debate: PRESIDENT CLINTON: Universal healthcare. Rebuilding the nation's schools. Repair from the road and rail networks. Sounds like a Democratic domestic agenda, right? Actually, it's the Bush administration's plan for the re-construction of Iraq. Now, I'm all for rebuilding Iraq when Saddam's gone. Yet it's ironic that Republicans don't have plans to stop the rise of Americans without health care. They're not funding the "leave-no-child-behind" education bill. They need to cut 500,000 kids beyond after-school programs. They've already eliminated school-repair funding and also the program to put 100,000 more teachers in your schools. Let's invest in Iraq and America. We can't be strong abroad if we are really not strong at home.SENATOR DOLE: As far as I am concerned, Mr. President, the one that should be worried about his medical is Saddam Hussein. It amazes me that at the very time the united states is uniting behind our troops overseas, you might be suggesting ways to divide us in your own home. You can't have it both ways. Soon, you say President Bush is not spending enough on domestic programs. In the future you'll be all over him on the deficit. There will be plenty of time this coming year to debate Medicare reform, tax cuts, and our energy strategy that the friends in Congress continue to block. For the moment though, our country's focus should be on Iraq, not Amtrak, on POWs, not HMOs. The training Americans care about most at this time is how fast we can educate Iraqi soldiers to say 'I surrender.' Hey, maybe there is a role for the French after all.PRESIDENT CLINTON: Senator, unlike some of your Republican friends during Kosovo, I support our troops in Iraq and our President. However your party is for better schools for Iraqi children and kicking 500,000 poor American children away from after-school programs. They even want to remove the program to put more police on the streets, our first responders in the war against terror. Debate on domestic issues isn't divisive. It's democracy.SENATOR DOLE: Democracy is about choices, and playing politics now is the wrong choice. Mr. President, this is a real war. We have troops on the floor. While we're talking, they're fighting. They need our patience and our prayers. bailey ugg boots

Congestive heart failure is a gradual weakening with the heart muscle that eventually causes the guts to lose the ability to beat properly. Patients are afflicted by lack of energy and often have to live with restricted mobility. A brand new report shows that Americans more than 40 have a one in five chance of developing progressive heart failure, along with the lifetime risk is double if you have high blood pressure. The Early Show medical contributor Dr. Emily Senay reports. The info comes from one of the largest and longest running heart studies - The Framingham Study, containing followed more than 8,000 people, some for as long as 25 years. The reason: Congestive heart failure can be brought on by prior heart attack, long-standing high blood pressure, diabetes or possibly a faulty heart valve. It is the No.1 cause for hospitalizations for those over 65, but it can often be hard to diagnose. Prevention:The good news is that an awareness of risk provides an opportunity to modify lifestyle to ensure a good diet and regular exercise, both factors that will reduce the risk of high blood pressure and coronary disease. And there are medications to help remedy heart failure when it occurs. There's also help available from an implantable device which enables jolt the heart back into an ordinary rhythm when heart failure puts against each other of kilter. The problem is that the symptoms may be confused with other problems. The two main complaints from people that come into the emergency room with heart failure are shortness of breath and fatigue. Other symptoms may include leg-swelling, lack of appetite, nausea, confusion and increased heartrate as the heart tries to replace not beating efficiently. The signs and symptoms can be hard for a doctor to diagnose because shortness of breath is a sign of bronchitis and pneumonia as well as heart failure. Before, diagnosis has often been a painstaking process of elimination. Some doctors have started to use new three-dimensional ultrasound techniques as a diagnostic tool to detect heart failure early and monitor the progress of treatment. There's also a new simple, accurate fifteen-minute test for heart failure where blood is measured for any hormone called BNP or Brain Natriuretic Peptide. Quantity of a hormone rise when the heart gets too overloaded. This new test means patients get quicker treatment. Results surface in a few minutes, which means quicker treatment if perhaps to be heart failure. Plus it means less anxiety and awaiting emergency-room patients who might be experiencing discomfort, difficulty breathing or fatigue. john lewis ugg boots
