I’d love to only have one, but they both have their usefulness in certain situations. The tablet has limited functionality, however is easy to pull out quickly and look up some information. My laptop is great when I want to get some real work done. I have grown accustom to having both and it would be hard to just pick one. I recently got my hands on Microsoft ’s Surface Pro which may solve this dilemma. It was only a matter of time before tablets and laptops fused. Lenovo will be one of the first entrants to the market with a Windows 8 device, and there will be many more to follow. This is an important development for students and schools alike. Until Windows 8 is officially released on October 26, 2012, there is little solid data to further speculate how this will unfold. It does seem that we are about the embark upon three ecosystems for tablets; iOS, Android, and Windows 8, as well as new types of hardware devices more closely aligned with student needs. The Surface Pro offers some other very compelling advances in tablet technology. This is the first tablet to use a genuine Intel processor that can support full scale software programs. Much like with a PC/Laptop, one can install any piece of software. Users are not relegated to mostly apps. There are many great apps out there, but often the functionality of apps is not sufficient when compared to a full version program. For those that really need to use Microsoft Office and other programs, the existing tablets have been limiting. MS is now creating a niche where a tablet can run full software applications. Nonetheless, they are far more than a cell phone with a large screen whether you want to use it for your daily business updates, or for pleasure. Most tablet PCs come with a faster processor; they also have better graphics capabilities, thus signifying that they are able to run laptop type of applications. Such applications include word processors, spreadsheets, productivity apps and games. More so, you should note that a tablet PC does not use flash - you need to make use of its SD memory slot for external storage purposes. It also works with iTunes. When going to find and purchase a new computer, it's easy to see the allure of tablet computers. With windows 8 promising to expand further on what is possible with hand held computing, it's no wonder tablets are selling so well. Many think that because of this, tower computers will go out of business in the near future. However, most admit that tower computers are far too convenient and useful to give up quite yet, and though tablets are racing to catch up with all the pros of a tower computer, most small businesses still rely on their Windows XP applications to get them through the day.
